IN WINTER
Limone Piemonte is renowned as one of the most important ski-stations of the Region. The area called “Riserva Bianca” is situated just under the Colle di Tenda, in the Maritime Alps, and may be reached from three routes: Limone Piemonte, Limonetto and Quota 1400. More than 80 km of ski slopes will welcome ski fans: situated at an altitude from 1.050 to 2.100 meters (ideal for Alpine skiing), the ski runs are served with twenty lift facilities. In Panice Sottana there is also a 6 km ring for country-cross skiing.
Skiing in a snowy and sunny landscape.
The high altitude and the peculiar position guarantee a natural snowing from December to April. For this reason, the Riserva Bianca is suitable for all skiers, the beginners as well the experts, that can experience thrilling off-piste skiing in charming backcountries, where the landscape is untouched and the view of the Alps and of the Piedmont plain is magnificent. For Alpine skiing fans, the Rocca dell’Abisso, the Montevecchio and the old military pathways offer sublime and mutable landscapes to savour the silence of Nature before a stirring downhill run.
Limone Piemonte is the touristic core of the Valle Vermenagna, where the sea breeze blows through snow-clad pine trees. This wonderful place will offer you an unforgettable holiday, dedicated to sports or relax.
IN SUMMER
Beautiful naturalistic routes can be discovered by walking around Limone Piemonte. Not only for sport fans, but for nature buffs as well. Enchanting landscapes, several excursions and fatigue resistances can be experienced across the wide basin around Limone or on the Rocca dell’Abisso, from the peak of which (2.655 m) a sublime view opens on the Piedmont plain and dominates the Alps.
Sport and Nature.
Of absolute interest are the Alpe San Giovanni and the “Napoleon Tunnel”, both reachable on foot along the evocative “Via Romana” (Roman route). The Alpe San Giovanni is an oasis of peace and spirituality which came to life through the respectful renovation of a village within reach of the falls of Limonetto. The “Napoleon Tunnel” celebrates the attempt to cross the mountains by passing through a tunnel, the digging of which was started in the XVIIth Century, continued in the XIXth Century and was actually realised only in 1882 at a lower altitude. On the French side you can notice mighty fortifications built in the XIXth Century and employed during the war.
For what concerns others attractions, Limone offers also important Natural Sanctuaries, in the Alpi Marittime, in the Alta Valle Pesio and Tanaro, and the French one of Mercantour. In the Vallone of San Bernardo golf fans may find the charming “Co’ di Paris”, a nine-hole course at altitude, where the Limone’s Golf Club has its seat. Whereas who is interested in climbing, trekking, mountain biking or riding will be able to spoil their appetite, by reaching the greenest valleys or the highest villages and fortifications.
LIMONE AN ANCIENT VILLAGE
Limone Piemonte was founded as a summer resort at the end of the XVIIIth Century and at the beginning of the XXth Century became one of the first ski resorts in Italy. The mild alpine climate, the outdoor sport facilities and the plenty of Italian and French hike itineraries, remodeled Limone as an ideal holiday destination throughout the year, for a vacation of relaxation, entertainment, and culture, because of its large number of cultural events.
Traditions, relax, entertainment and local cooking
The Province of Cuneo is synonym of superb culinary tradition, summarized in its symphony of tang and light savors, ancient recipes and good-eating, based upon seasonal renowned farm products, meats (Piedmont’s peculiar cattle breed, pigs and sheep). Others specialties come from the mountain woods and rivers (mushrooms, chestnuts, trout, berries) and from the fertile hills (nuts and his Majesty the White Truffle). These generous Nature gifts are at the heart of a world-wide esteemed culinary philosophy based on traditions and refinement.
